Collection 100: a bit of history...

Greek & Roman
  • Within the Greek and Roman eras, dreams were seen as being religious
  • Dreams were seen as predictions of the future
  • People saw them as messages either from the dead or from the gods
  • They were of high importance and even influenced the political actions of the leaders at the time
  • Aristotle's theory was that dreams are a result of physiological function
Chinese
  • The chinese believe that the dream is an actual place and that your soul and spirit go to this world
  • Some also thought that, if awakened suddenly, the soul wouldn't return to the body
  • This is also believed by some tribes, as supposedly their ancestors lived in their dreams
Egyptians
  • Egyptians recorded their dreams in hieroglyphics
